Scope and Content
The Phillip B. Gallegos Hispanic Religious Architecture of San Luis Valley Measured Drawings Collection documents a set of historic mission churches, located in the borderland region of southern Colorado, just north of the current New Mexico state boundary. The set contains one drawing per church and each drawing generally includes a location map, a site plan, a floor plan and the primary elevations, along with a brief written history of the site.

Biographical Information
In August 1989, architect and educator Phillip B. Gallegos, organized a documentation project for his class of architecture students at the University of Colorado at Denver. The student’s assignment was to create a set of measured drawings for a group of historic Spanish mission churches, which are located in the San Luis Valley of southern Colorado, specifically Conejos County, a “borderlands” region with close cultural ties to northern New Mexico.
