Scope and Content
The Dekker Collection contains project files of work that was created between 1959-1970 by Arthur W. Dekker. The drawings consist of plans, sections, elevations and perspectives in ink and graphite of proposed and built structures in New Mexico.
The buildings represented in the collection range from private residences, restaurants and hotels located along East Central Avenue (Historic Route 66), office buildings and public works. Some significant projects in Albuquerque, N.M. include: Central Christian Church, Sundowner Motel (on Route 66), Fox Drive-In Theatre, Bell Trading Post Remodel (Route 66), Sandia National Labs (various buildings).
Most documents in the collection are in English, with a few notes and letters in Spanish

Biographical Information
Arthur “Art" W. Dekker was born on October 3, 1922 and grew up in Roswell, New Mexico. He attended the University of Kansas and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Engineering in 1948. He practiced as a registered architect and engineer for over 50 years creating over 1000 designs for buildings and other structures primarily in the State of New Mexico. During his prolific career, Dekker was known for church design, creating the First Methodist Church and Redeemer Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, and the First Presbyterian churches in Grants and Albuquerque to name a few. Dekker also designed residences and commercial architecture, including airport terminals, restaurants and motels. Arthur “Art" W. Dekker died on January 13, 2007, at the age of 84. The firm continues to operate under the name, Dekker/Perich/Sabatini.

Abstract
This collection contains construction and working drawings from projects created by Arthur Dekker from 1959 to 1970. These projects mainly document buildings constructed in the State of New Mexico, many of which were located in Albuquerque. Many of these structures were located along historic Route 66 and the surrounding area.

The drawings in the collection are arranged by date and job numbers with un-numbered files in the first drawer of the collection.
