Scope and Content
The Dale L. Crawford Drawings and Plans Collection includes private, corporate, religious, civic, city, county, state and U.S. Government agency projects (Dept. of Interior, Forest Service, Dept. of Housing, Dept. of Energy, Corps of Engineers, B.I.A., and the Indian Health Service). Some significant projects include Grace Lutheran Church; Rio Grande Zoo entrance; Scholes Hall Administration Building (University of New Mexico); Correctional Industries Facilities.

Biographical Information
Dale L. Crawford was born December 29, 1933, in Raton, New Mexico. He graduated from the University of New Mexico with a B.S. in Architectural Engineering in 1956. He attended graduate school at the University of Colorado in 1952 and attended the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio in 1957. Crawford was a Captain in the U.S. Air Force 1956-1959. Later he worked as an Architect/Engineer, and Planner.
Crawford received his license to practice architecture in Louisiana in 1962 and in New Mexico in 1965. He worked as a draftsman for Brittelle & Ginner (1956), Brittelle, Ginner & Decker (1960-1961), and James Liberty (1962-63). Crawford worked as an architect for Francis Stanley & Associates (1964), and for Stanley, Oravec & Crawford (1965-1966). He was a partner in Crawford & Oravec (1966-1971), Principal Architect of Dale L. Crawford, Architect (1971-1973), and President of Dale Crawford & Associates, PC (1973-1997). Crawford served as Chairman of the Ethics Committee and President and Director of the Albuquerque Chapter of the American Institute of Architects; as President, Secretary-Treasurer, and Director of the New Mexico Society of Architects; as President of the New Mexico Architects PAC; and has served as Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association since 1977.
Crawford’s awards include the National Department of Defense Design Awards Program (1976, 1978, 1980, 1981, and 1985). In 1995 he received the AGC Architectural Engineering Excellence Award for his design of the Pajarito Elementary School, and the Albuquerque Conservation Alliance Award for the Best Historical Building Renovation. In 1998 Crawford received Honorable Mention for Best Buildings Interiors for the San Esteban Restaurant at the Albuquerque Bio-Park, and Honorable Mention for Historic Renovation of the Bernalillo-Roosevelt Library. In 1999 Crawford received honorable mention for Best Buildings for the Charter Companies Office Complex. Crawford’s projects include clubhouses, colleges and universities, community centers, golfing facilities, K-12 and vocational schools, libraries, municipal facilities, offices, recreational facilities, religious facilities, restaurants, private residences, and zoological and aquarium projects.
