Scope and Content

Collection contains views of Mexico from the series "Vistas Mexicanas" by Abel Briquet, a French photographer who worked in Mexico at the turn of the century. Locales and subjects include: Independence Day celebration, Paseo de la Reforma showing equestrian statue and street railroad, Hotel Iturbide, Chapultepec Castle, and the canal at Santa-Anita (Mexico City area); a bird's-eye view of Guanajuato; mausoleum in Guadalajara; the parish church in Jalapa, two bird's-eye views of Puebla; volcanoes of Popocatepetl and Ixtlaccihuatl; wharf and railway at Tampico; river running through the town of Orizaba; two views of the harbor and plaza at the port of Vera Cruz. Printed series title and item numbers, as well as item titles in Spanish and English appear below each photograph. Housed in a clamshell box covered in burgundy linen. The prints are 16 x 19 cm. and mounted to 28 x 36 cm.
