Scope and Content

These 16 (5 x 7 in.) photographs were selected and copied from an album once housed at the Santa Fe office of the U.S. Geological Survey. Made between circa 1909 and circa 1914, they show bridges, gaging structures, and cable cars at a number of river sites in New Mexico and Arizona. There are several views of the bridge at Embudo; one includes the Chile Line train (Denver & Rio Grande Western's Santa Fe branch). Also depicted are the XSX ranch and a hot springs bathhouse beside the Gila River. A landscape of the Mogollon Mountains shows horseback riders in a field of wild irises. Arizona views include a bridge over the Verde River and the dedication of Roosevelt Dam.
