Scope and Content
Photographs of the Florida and Philadelphia plantations in Chiapas, Mexico; trip along the Lumija and Tulija Rivers by steamboat to the plantations where tropical crops--rubber, pineapple, vanilla, and bananas--were grown. Shown are personnel, administration building and Indian laborers' housing, forest scenes, and crops. Other photos are touristic views of Mexico--people and trades, monuments, churches and shrines, casino, landscapes--were taken by commercial photographers, including C.B. Waite, and purchased from commercial distributors in Mexico City, such as W.G. Walz. Most photos are printing-out paper mounted on cardboard. Also included are panoramic photos and postcards. Identified are Judge Carpenter of Janisville, WI and Kirby Smith. Some photos marked on back as collection of H.W. Fay, editor of the DeKalb (IL) Review. Prints are 27.5 x 10 cm. (11 x 4 in.) or smaller.
