Scope and Content

The collection consists of three folders, each of which contains photographic prints from meetings of the New Mexico Folklore Society. Folder 1 contains photographic prints from the 1970 meeting in Tucumcari, NM, includes photographs featuring T. M. Pearce. Folder 2 contains photographic prints from the 1977 meeting in El Paso, TX, including photographs portraying Jose Cisneros, James Ward Lee, and T. M. Pearce. Folder 3 contains one photograph from the 1982 meeting in Abiquiú, NM which portrays Elizabeth Bennet.

History

Established in the spring of 1931, the purpose of the Society is to collect and preserve New Mexico folklore. The Society has sponsored many exhibits, lectures, folklore festivals, and publications. From 1944 until 1946, members participated in a project for the American Dialect Society, which was to collect proverbial sayings in English found in both written and oral traditions in New Mexico. In 1947, the Society began publication of the New Mexico Folklore Record.
