Scope and Content

This collection contains photographs of New Mexico architecture, Apache delegations, and one photograph of a sculpture of Jose Herrera, a Navajo sheep herder. Prints are 8 x 10, or smaller.

Biography

William Zimmerman was born in Chicago, Illinois. In 1933, Zimmerman was appointed Assistant Commissioner of Indian Affairs, BIA by President Roosevelt. In 1950, he transferred to the Bureau of Land Management. After retiring, he served as the head of the Washington branch of the Association on American Indian Affairs, and was also involved with the Sierra Club and the Wilderness Society.
