Scope and Content
The collection contains photographs recording the political career of Senator Harrison Schmitt, as well as photographs of national political leaders of the era, including Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter, and Dwight Eisenhower. The collection also includes photographs of a Congressional visit to the Kennedy Space Center in 1979.

Biography
Harrison Schmitt was born in Santa Rita, New Mexico in 1935. After receiving his doctoral degree in geology from Harvard University in 1964, he joined the NASA Apollo program. As a Lunar module pilot and geologist of Apollo 17 he landed on the moon in 1972. In November 1976, he was elected New Mexico Congressional Senator.
