Biographical Information

Wernher von Braun, (born March 23, 1912, Wirsitz, Germany [now Wyrzysk, Poland]— died June 16, 1977, Alexandria, Virginia, U.S.) was a German scientist who played a prominent role in all aspects of rocketry and space exploration, first in Germany during World War II and in the United States after World War II. Braun was influencial in the the development of the V-2 rockets and the Saturn program. Based for a while in El Paso, TX, Braun was part of a group of scientists that launched rockets at White Sands Proving Ground, New Mexico.
