Scope and Content

The collection consists of oral history video interviews that shed light on the history of Nob Hill. Old timers, residents, business owners, architects and planners, and others affiliated with the community were interviewed. Most interview files include the raw interview and interview highlights. Prominent interviewees include Jean and Mark Bernstein, founders of Flying Star Restaurant and Satellite Coffee; Ed Boles, former Historic Preservation Officer for the City of Albuquerque; former City Councilor, Rey Garduno and his wife, Ilsa Stromberg Garduno; and partners of Stevens, Mallory, Pearl, and Campbell (SMPC) Architectural firm.

Short films document early days, mid-century, renaissance, 21st century and people of Nob Hill. A longer film, “Nob Hill is 100" is also part of the collection.

History

2016 marked the 100th birthday of Albuquerque’s Nob Hill neighborhood. The year was marked with special events celebrating Nob Hill’s unique sense of place, its cultural heritage, and its people. The “Nob Hill is 100 Oral History Project" and associated videos were conducted as part of the celebration. The project was sponsored by Nob Hill Neighborhood Association and Nob Hill Main Street, with funding from Bernalillo County. Gary Eyster was the project director and Joel Ortiz was the videographer.
