Biography / History

Francisco Cuerbo y Valdes served as Governor of Nuevo Leon and Coahuila and was appointed acting Governor of New Mexico in 1705 by the Viceroy of New Spain, Don Francisco Fernandez de la Cueva. Cuerbo y Valdes ordered a Spanish garrison be established, founding Albuquerque.
