Scope and Content

The collection contains Sandra Lynn’s research pertaining to historic lodgings throughout New Mexico. This research culminated in the book, Windows on the Past: Historic Lodgings of New Mexico, published in 1999.

Included in the collection are research and site visit notes, brochures, clippings and articles, correspondence. Also included is a small collection of memorabilia and ephemera collected and/or purchased by Lynn, as well as audio recordings of oral history interviews with individuals directly associated with some of the historic lodgings. Many of the interviews have been transcribed; the transcriptions are filed in the research folder related most closely to the interview.

Biography / History

Sandra Dykes Lynn, born on September 16, 1944 in Longview, TX was a poet, teacher, historian, botanist, mother, and grandmother. She received her B.A. in English from the University of Texas and her M.A. in English from University of California at Berkeley. Sandra Lynn moved to New Mexico in 1988. She was a Professor of English, first at UNM and later at NMSU, Carlsbad. She travelled around New Mexico conducting historical research. A result of that research is her book, Windows on the Past: Historic Lodgings of New Mexico. Lynn passed away on July 16, 2013.

Processing Information

The original recordings of the oral history interviews were reformatted from audio cassette to CD in August 2018. The master audio cassettes are housed on B3; the digital master file of the interviews is housed on the CSWR network drive.
