Biography / History
Price’s Dairy was founded in 1906 by Mark Price and Mary Smith Price at El Paso, Texas. After the death of Mark in 1907, Mary Price was the head of Price’s Dairy Farm. By 1921 the Price’s Dairy Company was formed and expanded into Texas and New Mexico. In 1932 Mary Smith Price assisted her son Robert Price and investors with the purchase of the plant and farm property in Albuquerque, New Mexico where they established the Valley Gold Dairies, Inc. The first company plant was located on Fourth Street in Albuquerque with farms located in Bernalillo and Albuquerque's South Valley.
The Price’s Dairy or Valley Gold farm property in South Albuquerque (570 acres) was purchased in sections, beginning in 2011, by the federal government to create an urban wildlife refuge. In 2012 it became the Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge.
