Scope and Content
This collection consists of typed transcriptions of interviews by Moffett with New Mexico Sports figures. The interviews were not audio recorded and were transcribed verbatim during the interviews (real-time reporting). This interview project was funded through The Center for Regional Studies at the University of New Mexico. The collection also contains a short draft manuscript on New Mexico basketball figures titled “Acknowledgements: A Quintet of New Mexico Hoops Heroes,” and an unpublished biographical summary of Ben Moffett.

Biography / History
Ben Moffett was born at San Antonio, N.M., Socorro County in 1939. His family moved to Albuquerque where he attended Albuquerque High and became a sports editor for his high school paper, and almost simultaneously a sports stringer for the Albuquerque Journal. Moffett continued to be a sports writer through college at the University of New Mexico where he earned a BA in Journalism and an MA in Communication. For over four decades he wrote some twenty articles for New Mexico’s premier magazines: El Palacio and New Mexico Magazine. Moffett is currently writing a book on the history of basketball in New Mexico and the transcriptions of interviews in this collection are part of his research (See names of interviewees in Contents List below).
