Scope and Content

The collection consists primarily of administrative documents and reports related to the Main Street program in Albuquerque’s Nob Hill District. Planning documents, agendas, meeting minutes, committee work, newsletters and reports are included. Reports provide insight into Nob Hill’s history and character, marketability, parking issues, and design guidelines. The Nob Hill Study (1985), funded by a Community Development Block Grant to the Nob Hill Neighborhood Association is included. The collection was amassed by Joe McKinney of the UNM Facilities Planning Office, who was a member of the Nob Hill Main Street Design Committee.

Biography / History

The National Trust for Historic Preservation chose Albuquerque’s Nob Hill Business District to participate in its Main Street program in late 1985. The program’s goal was to stimulate revitalization of the commercial area within the context of historic preservation. The project involved a public/private partnership including the Nob Hill Neighborhood Association, the Central Avenue Association, and the City of Albuquerque.
