La Luz Landowners Association Records
Collection
Identifier: MSS-795-BC
Scope and Content
The collection documents the history of Albuquerque's La Luz community via records of the La Luz Landowners Association Board of Directors and committees. Legal documents, agendas, meeting minutes, notes and correspondence form the core of this collection. Aside from routine business, prominent issues illuminated in the collection include architectural standards/integrity, unique maintenance concerns, development, and the like. News clippings and magazine articles highlight architect Antoine Predock's inimitable design of La Luz.
Much of the material in the collection was amassed by Robert Gish during his tenure on the Board of Directors and on various committees.

Background Information
The La Luz community was the first major project of architect, Antoine Predock. La Luz, developed by Ovenwest Corporation and opened in 1969, was hailed as a "courageous attempt to show how land can be improved by development, housing can be clustered without being cramped, and architecture and planning can support conservation." The community consists of "96 [adobe] homes clustered on some 42 acres of developed land at the edge of a 500-acre parcel of wide open spaces. Each dwelling has complete privacy, protected outdoor space, and connections to communal patios and placitas…."
The La Luz Landowners Association was incorporated on February 10, 1969. The Association holds title to common areas and facilities, administers the common areas for the benefit of the residents, and is charged with implementing La Luz's Declaration of Planned Residential Community.
