Historical Note
The University of New Mexico has had fraternities since the early 1900s when a group of students formed a local fraternity called the Yum Yum Boys. They were known for eating their lunch under the trees near the Administrative Building, now Hodgin Hall. In 1906 D.R. Lane helped to organize the Sigma Tau Fraternity at the University. Sigma Tau, with eighteen members, was admitted to Sigma Chi, August 5, 1915 and installed in April 1916. They were the second men's fraternity at the University to receive a national charter. Since its inception the Fraternity has been committed to high ideals, service and the concept of brotherhood
