Scope and Content

One black-and-white snapshot (5.5 x 3.5 in.) of Argentine author Raúl Larra and a Chinese man. Photo was taken in China in 1956 and includes a handwritten inscription on the back addressed to his correspondent, Darby John McGannon Strong.

Biography

Raúl Larra, born in 1913, was the son of Italian immigrants and was the first generation born in Argentina. His birth name was Raúl Laragione, but he used the pseudonym, Larra, given to him by his elementary school classmates. He was ideologically Marxist and this may have led to his eventual disappearance.
