Scope and Content
Collection consists of photographs (20 x 25 cm. or smaller) of government officials and volunteers, most unidentified, in charge of health care facilities throughout New Mexico. Numerous group portraits: speakers at an event and various groups in a meeting room and at health care facilities. One is taken in front of the Cuba Memorial Health Center; others in patient and examining rooms.

History
The New Mexico Health Foundation was organized May 23, 1946 and incorporated as a non-profit corporation on July 1, 1947. The Foundation was established through a $350,000 trust from its founder, Katrina McCormick Barnes. Improving health conditions in New Mexico, particularly in rural communities, was the Foundation's primary mission. The Foundation initiated several pilot projects including building community health clinics, improving domestic water supplies, and promoting health education. In 1961, the Foundation broadened in scope, allowing it to receive, administer, and dispense grants. In 1964, the board of trustees elected to dissolve, largely as a result of lack of funding.
