Scope and Content

This artificial collections began with one photograph of Frieda and D. H. Lawrence. Later, two photographs of Frieda, one a color print in her doorway and a group photograph of Mabel Dodge Luhan, Tony Luhan and Frieda were added.

Biography

Frieda Emma Johanna Maria von Richthofen was born on August 11, 1879 in Metz, France. In 1912, Frieda met David Herbert (D. H.) Lawrence, and they married in 1914. Frieda Lawrence was intimately involved with D. H. Lawrence's work. Facets of her personality are often discernable as components of characters in his poems and novels. After D. H. Lawrence's death in 1930, Frieda settled in New Mexico. Frieda died in Taos on August 11, 1956.

Separated Material

The first photograph was separated from the Collection of Papers on Frieda Lawrence.

Processing Information

Assembled initially from undocumented sources, the collection was started in 2006. In 2022 it was expanded with the donation of two additional images from the 1950s.
