L. B. Hastings Photograph Collection

Scope and Content

Collection consists of four card-mounted prints and one modern copy print. Pictures include a full-length portrait of L.B. Hastings, Hastings and another man standing beside pack mules, a group of men and women posed around a cliff dwelling site, a landscape labeled "entrance to Grand Canyon, " and a landscape of Chloride Flat, near Silver City. The last photograph has hand-written identification on back stating that the donor's father, John I. Hastings, was general manager of the Breman silver mine at Chloride Flat. According to the text, the mine produced one million dollars in silver between 1879 and 1883. The text also states that Billy the Kid and his mother once lived at Chloride Flat and recounts an anecdote about the first man killed by the Kid. Prints are 18 x 13 cm. or smaller.

Biography
