History

The Coronado Cuarto Centennial Commission (CCCC) was created by the State of New Mexico in 1938 to plan the commemoration of the four-hundredth anniversary of the 1540 journey and explorations of Francisco Vásquez de Coronado to New Mexico. A bill, signed by Governor Tingley in 1935, created 18 different but unified pageants as part of the celebration in New Mexico. The Ways and Means Committee of the New Mexico Legislature created a plan in January 1938 to include historical and anthropological events including the dedication of a Coronado exhibit site near the town of Bernalillo, exhibits of art, school work, and handicrafts, Indian exhibits, tours, and publications. The Commission's officers and members coordinated events in New Mexico with their national counterpart, the U. S. Coronado Exposition Commission
