Scope and Content
This collection consists of literary manuscripts written by Starr Jenkins and by Beatrice Starr Jenkins. "More Than My Share," is a collection of articles and fact-based fiction written by Starr Jenkins. The stories tell of his experiences with the U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service as a jumper into forest fires, as well as other adventures.
The manuscript by Beatrice Starr Jenkins is a biography of Jose Maria Morelos. There is also a play about Morelos by Starr Jenkins, based on his mother's work. Also included are notes by Starr Jenkins providing background information on each manuscript.

Biographical Information
Starr Jenkins was born in Chicago in 1925. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. After his military service, Jenkins spent several summers working for the U.S. Forest Service and the National Park Service. In 1948 he graduated from the University of New Mexico. Jenkins taught high school English and history in Albuquerque for five years, then worked for the U.S. Forest Service as a writer-photographer. He earned an M.A. in creative writing from Stanford University in 1959 and a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of New Mexico in 1972. He held a position as professor of English at California Polytechnic State until his retirement in 1988. Jenkins was the author of Profiles Of Creative Political Leaders, published by the Whitmore Publishing Company, 1975, as well as many articles and stories published in various periodicals.
Beatrice Starr Jenkins, Starr Jenkins mother, graduated from Wellesley in 1918. She received an M.A. in History from the University of New Mexico in 1948. She wrote a full length biography of Jose Maria Morelos, the subject of her masters thesis, but was unable to find a publisher. Beatrice Jenkins died in 1986 at the age of eighty-nine.
