Biographical Information

Marie Pope Wallis, 1901-1975 was a social worker, teacher, librarian, writer. She held M.A. degrees in Speech, Social Work, Library Science, Elementary Education and Creative Writing. In 1947, she received one of the first two Doctor of Philosophy degrees conferred at UNM. After receiving her Ph.D., in Ibero-American Literature, she taught Spanish and Portuguese as an Assistant Professor at UNM.

education and a number of libraries. She was a World War II veteran and licensed pilot in the Civil Air Patrol. She appeared in several theater productions with the Albuquerque Little Theater and elsewhere, and traveled widely throughout the world. See more
