This small collection contains photocopies of letters written by William C. Leonard to his uncle, N.W. Leonard of Middleboro, Massachusetts. The letters were written between 1876 and 1901 while William C. Leonard lived in New Mexico.
The letters deal primarily with sheep ranching, selling dry goods and real estate investment/rental.
Of particular interest, these letters discuss the real estate market price fluctuations in New Albuquerque.
The collection also contains some letters written in California, Colorado, Illinois and Kansas.

Biographical Information
William C. Leonard, entrepreneur from the Middleboro, Massachusetts area, established residence in New Mexico and later New Albuquerque in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Prior to his residence in New Albuquerque, William C. Leonard lived and sought business prospects in Clifton, Troyburg and Ojo Caliente, New Mexico.
William C.Leonard was involved chiefly in sheep ranching, dry goods retail and property/land investment and rental. In 1881 he founded, along with Elmer Washburn, the E & L Washburn Clothing Store at Second and Gold.
In 1901 he sold his share of the E & L Washburn store and moved to California.
