Institutional History

The Fortnightly Music Club of Albuquerque was organized in the early l890s as the Thursday Morning Musical Club. The organization was accepted as a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs in l9l4, and it was renamed the Fortnightly Music Club. In l945, after World War II, the Club merged with the Albuquerque Music Club.

The Fortnightly Music Club's stated aim was to benefit its membership and to stimulate musical interest in the city through recitals and educational programs. The membership was comprised of prominent citizens and University faculty. The Club sponsored an annual Artists' Series that brought performers of international fame to the city.
