Biographical Information
Michael Jenkinson, writer, was born on June 23, 1938, in England. He attended Lewis and Clark College in 1956-1957 and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of New Mexico in 1961. Between 1956 and 1966, Jenkinson was employed in a variety of part time positions such as actor, book salesman, teacher, and cheese slicer in a delicatessen. In 1966, Jenkinson began writing full time. He has published several books on topics including New Mexico ghost towns, wilderness areas in the southwest and dangerous animals. In addition to his writing, Jenkinson was the project coordinator for the New Mexico Arts Commission. He lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Jenkinson's, Wild Rivers of North America, republished in a 1981 edition, was different than the first edition published in 1973. The 1981 edition presents a small number of rivers in a large format publication illustrated with full page glossy photographs. The original version of the book describes river trips on a large number of North American Rivers. It contains a lot of text which describes both the physical attributes of each river and the history of its use. This material is not included in the newer edition.
