Scope and Content

The collection contains the page proofs of Romero's first novel, Nambe-Year One. Also included is a layout copy of the same book with corrections made by the author. The only original manuscript in the collection is a short untitled piece written for the Santa Fe New Mexican. The rest of the collection consists of photocopies of articles Romero wrote for various New Mexico magazines, newspapers and museums. The article topics include santos and acequias.

Biographical Information

Born in Santa Fe, NM in 1945, Orlando Romero is a novelist, retired librarian, sculptor and santero. He earned a B.A. in English at the College of Santa Fe and a M.A. in library science from the University of Arizona. Nambe-Year One is his first novel. His fiction is considered regional not only because it is set in New Mexico, but also because it deals with living in a tri-cultural society. His first novel focuses on a Chicano that has strong roots to the culture, the people and the land.

This small collection of New Mexico writer Orlando Romero's papers includes a proof copy of his first novel as well as copies of articles written for various magazines.
