The Albuquerque-Bernalillo County Council for Older Persons was formed in 1970 in Albuquerque (name is abbreviated to ABC-CO-OP). Its constitution was drafted in 1972 under the name of The Albuquerque-Bernalillo County Council of Organizations for Older Persons. Its stated objectives were to deal with matters of aging in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County. In doing so, the organization sought to provide a public voice for older people and to research and recognize the needs of older people.
