Scope and Content
In addition to a number of small pocket sketchbooks, the collection includes three folders of original watercolor drawings for Mr. Balcomb's "Schetsboek," a humorous memoir of a 1954 trip through Europe.
Katherine J. Balcomb, wife of Kenneth C., contributed the handwritten receipts for sales of slaves, the cotton inventories, a South Carolina Railroad Company receipt and a handbill advertising the "Fair of the Carolinas."
The Balcomb collection consists of one box. The collection is organized in chronological order by event and/or publication date.

Biography
Kenneth C. Balcomb completed his B.S. degree in Civil Engineering at the University of New Mexico in 1916. His subsequent career included work with the U.S. Bureau of Public Roads, a period of self-employment in real estate and insurance, and an association with the U.S. Soil Conservation Service from 1935 to 1952 when he retired. He was a nearly life-long resident of Albuquerque. The story of his youth as well as Albuquerque's "A Boy's Albuquerque, 1989-1912," was published posthumously by the University of New Mexico Press and the Albuquerque Historical Society in 1980.
