Scope and Content
This collection consists of five anthologies of poems by Gene Frumkin (Dostoevsky and Other Nature Poems, Hawk and the Lizard, The Mystic Writing Pad, Locust Cry, and The Rainbow-Walker). It contains one issue of the New Mexico Quarterly edited by Gene Frumkin as well as an anthology co-edited by Frumkin and Stanley Noyes entitled The Indian Rio Grande: Recent Poems From Three Cultures. It also contains an edition of Sur, a literary magazine published in Buenos Aires which contains translations of the poems compiled in the issue of the New Mexico Quarterly edited by Frumkin. There is one unidentified, undated typed poem with handwritten corrections and one sketch of Gene Frumkin signed by Frumkins ex-wife Lydia Frumkin in this collection as well. Other southwestern authors whose works are included in the anthologies housed in this collection include Simon Ortiz, Joy Harjo, Enrique Lamadrid, Leslie Silko, and Ernest Tedlock.

Biographical Information
Gene Frumkin was born in New York in 1928. He lived in the Bronx where he began to write poetry in Yiddish at age four. By age seven, Frumkin had given up writing poetry in any language. At age ten, he moved to Los Angeles. He received his B.A. in English from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1950. After graduation, he resumed writing poetry. In 1966 he began a teaching career at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, where he taught English and creative writing. Frumkin edited literary magazines in both California and New Mexico. He has authored several books of poetry, he has edited or co-edited various anthologies of poetry. His poems have appeared in numerous anthologies and periodicals.
