Included in the collection are correspondence, meeting minutes, membership lists, calendars, reports, and project files from the New Mexico State division and local New Mexico branch chapters of the American Association of University Women. A number of scrapbooks from New Mexico branches are also included in this collection.

Institutional History

The New Mexico Division of the American Association of University Women was organized in October 1933. The Division was preceded by five branches: Las Cruces Branch, founded in 1923; Albuquerque, 1927; Carlsbad, 1928, Santa Fe, 1933 and Roswell, (n.d.) The purpose, according to the bylaws of the division, "shall be to further the policies and programs of the Association, foster the development and maintenance of high standards of education, strengthen the fellowship among university women in order that their effectiveness may be felt throughout the division in the solution of social and civic problems, secure broader opportunities for women, organize new branches of the Association within the division, and promote, encourage, and coordinate the work of the branches throughout the division."("Bylaws of the New Mexico Division, 1987-1989.")
