Scope and Content
This collection contains one negative photoprint copy of the company's articles of incorporation. It includes the by-laws and plans of the company. Printed by the Santa Fe Gazette, plans to print 100 copies in English and Spanish are indicated in the document. The company planned to dissolve within eighteen months if the road was not completed.

Historical Information
The Abiquiu, Pagosa, Baker City Road Company incorporated 4 January, 1861. Charles Baker was recognized as president, J.M. Edgar was secretary and José Pablo Gallegos was treasurer. The company planned to build a toll road from Abiquiu, in Rio Arriba County, N.M. to Baker City, located in the plains of the San Juan River in New Mexico Territory. The road would be constructed without government assistance. Originally capitalized with $15,000, the company planned to sell its stock publicly.
