Scope and Content
This “in-process” collection of Cherry/See/Reames Papers and Project Slides consists of slides of project sites before, after, and during the construction process. Sites include residential, commercial, and educational buildings throughout New Mexico. The collection also contains some slides of architectural drawings and presentations.

Biography/History
Cherry/See/Reames Architects PC was established in 1977 as Edith Cherry/D. James See Architects. Prior to 1977, the firm was known as Edith Cherry, Architect, and was primarily a programming consulting firm. From 1977-1994 the firm primarily worked for the public sector - schools, community centers and state agencies. Since 1994, they have branched out to design commercial and light industrial projects. The firm’s philosophy states that every site and design situation is unique, therefore the context of the project and functional program dictate the form. They believe that the services provided should address the client’s problems in a comprehensive manner and energy conservation and respect for the environment are an important part of being a responsible professional. Cherry/See/Reames Architects PC has been the recipient of dozens of awards, many of which are for architectural, historic, and heritage preservation. In 2006, Tina Reames, a 14 year employee at the time, was made a partner and the firm changed names. The firm has remained at a moderate size intentionally because the partners prefer to personally participate in architectural project work. In 2012, Tina became Sole Owner of the firm, with Edie and Jim still active employees.
EDITH CHERRY, FAIA, ASLA Partner Emerita
Edie Cherry was educated at Rice University. She completed her architectural internship at Caudill Rowlett Scott where she was the first woman to be elected an Associate in the firm. Edie moved to Albuquerque in 1972 to teach architecture at the University of New Mexico, where she taught design studio, programming, and historic preservation. She held administrative positions including Acting Dean and Director of Architecture and became Professor Emerita in 2000.
Edie and Jim See, her husband, started Cherry/See Architects, now Cherry/See/Reames Architects, in 1977 and she was with the firm part time while teaching. In 2000, she joined the firm full time and has concentrated on architectural programming, planning, historic preservation and landscape planning. She has authored several publications on programming including a text book, Programming for Design, From Theory to Practice, which has been translated into Korean, Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese. She also authored the chapter on programming in the 2008, The Architect’s Handbook of Professional Practice, published by the AIA. Edie is a fellow in the AIA and a licensed landscape architect.
D. JAMES SEE, AIA Partner Emeritus
Jim See was educated at the University of New Mexico. He completed his internship in Albuquerque working for Antoine Predock, Dyer-McClernon and Donald Kruegar among others. In 1977, Jim and Edie Cherry, his wife, started the firm of Cherry/See Architects, now Cherry/See/Reames, Architects. Jim was the principal responsible for design and construction phases for all the projects while Edie was teaching at UNM.
Jim has designed educational, residential, commercial, and institutional architecture projects for over 30 years. His knowledge of construction, codes, and job site observation is second only to his dedication to design work that is well proportioned, aesthetically pleasing, and functionally appropriate often within a very tight budget. His design work is responsible for the many design awards the firm has received.
TINA REAMES, AIA, RLA, LEED AP BD &C, CDT President
Tina Reames was educated at the University of New Mexico. She began her architectural internship working for her former Presidential Scholarship sponsor, Bill Fanning at Fanning Bard Larsen, AIA LTD. Tina started with Cherry/See Architects part-time, while still in graduate school. Her Master of Architecture degree included an emphasis in Landscape Architecture.
Tina was made partner in 2006 after 14 years with the firm. Tina is also the New Mexico State Intern Development Program Coordinator, a position she has held since 2004. She chairs the CSI Emerging Professionals Committee. In 2011, she received the New Mexico Architects Medal from the American Institute of Architects New Mexico Chapter for her exemplary leadership and contribution to the profession. Tina is also a registered landscape architect.
On October 1, 2012, Ms. Reames became sole owner of the firm transitioning to a professional corporation (PC) rather than a limited liability partnership (LLP). The firm is now called Cherry/See/Reames Architects, PC. The firm continues to focus on public projects for the City of Albuquerque, the State of New Mexico and Albuquerque Public Schools and specializes in historic preservation projects.
