Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The collection contains Nancy Owen Lewis' research, writings, and presentations relating to tuberculosis and sanitoriums, primarily in New Mexico. Materials are divided into 5 series: TB Research; Chasing the Cure; High and Dry in New Mexico; and Nancy Owen Lewis Talks, Interviews, Articles; and Memorabilia.

TB research includes research correspondence and interviews conducted by Nancy Owen Lewis as well as research on specific NM sanatoriums, Indian sanatoriums, health seekers, physicians, and patients. General research on sanitariums and tuberculosis in NM and more broadly is also found in this series.

The "Chasing the Cure" series contains funding proposals and materials related to book production, marketing, and publicity.

"High and Dry in New Mexico" consists of research and articles on health, Hispanics, and Native Americans used for Nancy Owen Lewis' article in the New Mexico Historical Review.

Nancy Owen Lewis Talks, Interviews, and Articles contains templates for talks, specific talks, articles by and interviews with Nancy Owen Lewis.

Memorabilia includes 3 embroidery projects by patients at the Indian Sanatarium in Albuquerque; a token from Valmora Sanatorium Dairy, and a pneumothorax needle.
