The Latin American Institute is a department of the University of New Mexico. During the Quincentennial, the LAI worked on various projects, including the publication the NEH funded publication, Encuentros. both while it was at the LAI and when funding was cut and the Spain '92 Foundation took control and it became known as Encounters.
