Topics discussed include: family legacy of farming on a plot in Old Town, Albuquerque; crops grown; agricultural methods including permaculture; selling of produce; Ayala's educational background (including service in the Peace Corps and work as a microbiologist); Tres Hermanas Farm, which works with international refugees and employees methods such as growing crops familiar to the refugees; Rio Grande Community Farm and community farming education, including working with volunteer groups; challenges of water shortage and climate change, including irrigation methods and local issues related to acequias and management of the Rio Grande; regenerative and sustainable agriculture ideas and methods; the fatigue of agricultural labor as well as the pleasures of teaching and learning and cooking; “heritage farming”—the importance of a farming tradition in Ayala's family as well as new farmers on historically-farmed land.
