Family, Education, Early Career, 1960-1981

 Series

Scope and Content

From the Collection: The collection focuses on Marta Weigle’s life outside her career as an academic. Personal journals and scrapbooks as well as writings (stories, manuscripts) of a non-academic nature comprise most of the collection. Much of the material is autobiographical in nature. Themes include feminism, lesbianism, and Santa Fe, NM. Naturally, there are overlaps between her academic and non-academic life which are evident in the collection. Materials are divided into the following general and overlapping series: Family, Education, Early Career; Spirituality and Enlightenment; Journals/Scrapbooks; Correspondence and Related Materials; Writings. The Fray Angélico Chávez History Library at the New Mexico History Museum houses the more academic portion of Marta Weigle’s papers including her work on Santa Fe, tourism, and the Penitentes.
