Scope and Content
From the Collection:
The Frings Collection of Max Scheler Archives is an exact photocopy collated with the originals of the Scheler Archives in the State Library of Bavaria, Germany. The papers contain numerous annotations by Maria Scheler and Manfred Frings, editors of the fifteen volume collected German edition of Max Scheler's philosophy. The copies were produced by the German Research Society (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Bad Godesberg) in 1970 for Manfred S. Frings shortly after the death of Maria Scheler, the first project editor. The material in this collection encompasses the following areas of knowledge: biology, education, ethics, history, metaphysics, morality, phenomenology, philosophical anthropology, politics, religion, and sociology.
The collection contains correspondence, galleys, manuscripts, fragment pages, titles of books in Scheler's library, notebooks, transcripts of handwritten manuscripts, and registers of lectures. Scheler's original documents are dated 1909-1928. Edits and notes written by Maria Scheler, in 1933 and 1954-1969, accompany those written by Manfred Frings, begining in 1970.
It is best used with the guide to Scheler's archives published in Die Nachl?sse der M?nchener Ph?nomenologen in der Bayerischen Staatsbibliothek, by Eberhard Av?-Lallemant. A photocopy of that guide is included in the collection. Index numbers from the guide to the originals are written on the corresponding folders in this collection.
All material is in German.
