Senate Censure of McCarthy, RE: Correspondence: Pro-McCarthy, Non-New Mexico Residents., 1954.
Archival Record — Box: 65, Folder: 7
Scope and Contents
From the Sub-Series:
Two "episodes" are documented here. The first is the Senate Hearings to investigate Communists in the federal government (1950). The second, in 1954, revolves around the censure proceedings against Senator McCarthy by a Republican appointed Senate Committee (Watkins Committee). The Watkins Committee was established to investigate McCarthy's finances, however, many supporters of McCarthy continued to confuse the two events and many also make reference to the investigation of the Patrick J. Hurley (Rep)/Dennis Chávez (Dem) 1952 Senatorial election in New Mexico (completed in March 1954) and/or racially motivated insults against Chávez.
