Scope and Content

From the Collection: The bulk of the William Jackson Parish collection is made up of research material for Parish's Harvard dissertation and 1961 Harvard University Press publication, The Charles Ilfeld Company: A Study of the Rise and Decline of Mercantile Capitalism in New Mexico. This material consists of correspondence, notes, manuscripts, business reports, an editor's copy of The Charles Ilfeld Company..., as well as the bound dissertation. Also included is correspondence with Harvard University concerning Parish's graduate work (D.C.S.), 1945-1950, and research concerning the history of the First National Bank of Santa Fe. Included in the First National Bank of Santa Fe material is correspondence, research notes, loan records, ledgers, letter books, statements, and minutes. The Ilfeld Research Material contains a photograph of Emil Amberg. The collection also includes administrative correspondence between Parish and various businessmen concerning donations and transfer of company records to the University of New Mexico Library Special Collections, now known as the Center for Southwest Research.
