Scope and Content

Collection contains material produced or collected by Teresa Córdova related to her academic career as well as her time spent as County Commissioner, and on several editorial and advisory boards. The collection is organized into the following groupings: - Bernalillo County Commissioner, The University of New Mexico, Community Organizations, Environmental Justice, and Newspapers. Papers relating to Chicano/a Studies, environmental justice, Bernalillo County, women's issues, Intel, and various organizations involved with city planning.
The Bernalillo County Commissioner materials relate to Teresa Córdova's time spent as Bernalillo County Commissioner and is arranged into three topics South Valley with various projects put into place during Córdova's service as County Commissioner from 2005 till 2008. Projects include open spaces and parks, neighborhood associations, street improvements, and agricultural issues such as water supply and air quality. The Coors/Rio Bravo material relates to the construction of a shopping mall in the Coors and Rio Bravo intersection in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Includes letters that are for or against the new development from community members. There are also material about Miscellaneous Projects consisting of papers relating to various projects Teresa Córdova was involved in, including but not limited to development of parks, air quality, water supply, sewage development, and road improvements.
The University of New Mexico material includes material collected from Teresa Córdova's time spent with the university, and is arranged into three topics: School of Architecture and Planning, contains final projects from a number of Córdova's students based around urban planning, as well as other papers that relate to Córdova's time spent as a professor in the department. The second subseries; Women's Studies, consists of Córdova's instrumental work in establishing a Women's Studies Department at the University of New Mexico; Editorial Boards, contains papers relating to Córdova's time spent on the editorial board of several different anthologies and publications relating to Chicano/a studies, Women's studies, and other academic materials.
The Community Organizations material contains documents collected and produced by Córdova that relates to several organizations; some based within Albuquerque, New Mexico, and others related specifically to the Chicano/a social movement. Organizations include the Southwest Organizing Project (SWOP), National Association for Chicano and Chicana Studies (NAACS), and Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social (MALCS). Also contains newsletters, media, conferences, and papers recording meetings from these various organizations.
The Environmental Justice material relates to environmentally-conscious projects and organizations that Córdova was involved with consisting of articles, letters, and hearings related to the development of Intel in New Mexico, Fort Carson which contains papers and photos that relate to Córdova's environmental work in the Fort Carson military base in Colorado. Also contain much material related to other environmental projects.
The Newspapers/Publications folders, consists of various papers and publications published by universities, organizations, and academic journals. Includes past publications of The Daily Lobo, the University of New Mexico's newspaper, The University of California, Berkeley's Newspaper, and newspapers published by the South Valley's neighborhood association in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The final grouping consists of large maps and posters which pertain to the many topics in the collection.
