Scope and Content
From the Collection:
Modern copies of photographs located in the Laboratory of Anthropology in Santa Fe, documenting the construction of that building in 1930. The building was designed by John Gaw Meem and built in the Southwestern Pueblo style. Photos include: building under construction, equipment and laborers, the Director's residence (exteriors and interiors). Group of earlier photos (ca.1920-1930) compiled by Kenneth Chapman used as ideas for the design of the Laboratory include: Santuario de Chimayo, views of Isleta, exterior of church at Rancho de Taos, interior church at Santa Cruz showing details of vigas, corbels, balcony, recessed portals, church interior, wooden carved doors at Chimayo and Santa Clara, courtyard of the Museum of Fine Arts (Santa Fe) with Anglos and American Indians in period dress (ca.1920), Churches at San Felipe, San Ildefonso, Picuris, and Laguna Pueblos. Prints are 5 x 7 in.
