Timber and Lumber businesses

 Sub-Series

Scope and Contents

Gross, Kelly & Co. had a Lumber Division with headquarters at Las Vegas. From this point, finished lumber was sold and shipped to points throughout New Mexico and--at least during World War II--even to buyers in the Mid West. Lumber and timber products were a main source of revenue for the Glorieta, Pecos and Rowe branches, from which timber cut in the nearby mountains was shipped to Las Vegas, Albuquerque and other points. One of the G., K. & Co. subsidiaries, the Mora Timber Co., was involved in this trade; and in addition, G., K. &Co. from time to time acquired sawmill operations in settlement of debts.
