Scope and Contents

Some of these stories are similar to others in the collection. Anonymous man. Begins at 00:02 and ends at 6:09. Conversation (fair recording, about Billy the Kid, speaker is discussing the history of how he was arrested and killed, he was in jail in Albuquerque, Pat Garret killed him, traveling from San Antonio, Texas, etc.).

Anonymous woman. Begins at 6:24 and ends at 9:16. Story (poor recording, introduction given).

Anonymous performance. Begins at 9:39 and ends at 13:24. Song (good recording, performance, music, guitar, live, no introduction given).

Anonymous woman. Begins at 13:47 and ends at 20:43. Stories (good recording, various, one about three ducks that lived in a pond, ugly duckling story, everyone was mean to him so he ran away, he realized he was not a duck after all; folk tale, zapatero, another story about a shoe maker, he had to make shoes for the king; a Catholic boy who sang at church, he walked through the Jewish neighborhood, Judios, singing Christian songs so they killed him and left his body in the forest, they found his body by following his songs, singing in death, the mother of Christ appeared; story about a hare and a tortise who raced, turtle and rabbit, etc.).

Anonymous man. Begins at 20:45 and ends at 22:09. Story, Chapulin (good recording, about a chapulin, grasshopper and an ant who works very hard preparing for winter, folk tale, moral of the story is to prepare for the hard times).

Anonymous man. Begins at 22:10 and ends at 24:40. 1. Story (fair recording, about a dog who tries to steal a bone from his reflection, loses what he has, moral, folk tale); 2. Story (fair recording, story about a Christian and a lion, Christian told lion not to eat him but he prayed first and killed the man, death, muerte, faith).

Lisa Sanchez, age 61, from Alcalde, NM. 24:48 and ends at 54:31. Stories (fair to poor recording, various, told to her by her grandmother, about a couple who had seven children, king, royalty, folk tales, cuento del padre y la vaca, woman who worked with the priest, the man had no work, very poor, conversation at the end of the reel, not intelligible).
