Lecture (good recording, about incidents of travel on the Santa Fe Trail in Northeastern New Mexico, leaders were political prostitutes, politicians, politics, Las Vegas, government, fight against barbed wire fences, ranching, open range, Anglo American pilgrims, Columbus, oral transmission of history, etc.).
Scope and Contents Ruben Cobos, he is President Elect of the New Mexico Folklore Society, at conference, Santa Fe, May 1974. Begins at 49:42 and ends at 63:26. Lecture (good recording, about his research on the death of Pablita Angel, orphan girl, only woman in New Mexico to have been hung for the murder of her brother in law, hanging in 1861, she had two brothers and lived in Las Vegas in the 1850s - 1860s, she married one of the Martin brothers, Domingo Martin, in November of 1859, he was the son of Miguel Martin, an early New Mexico settler, women, Paulita Angel, other brother wanted to have relations with her, she defended herself from his abuse, President Lincoln issued her a pardon but it arrived too late, records are in San Miguel County, her story is in book called, Turmoil in New Mexico, by Keleher, also there are inditas and corridos about her that tell her story, her lawyer was named El Colorado because he was a red-head, recording cuts off abruptly at end of CD).
