Scope and Contents
Anonymous, male. (Poor to fair recording). 1. Dichos (proverbs, poor recording); 2. El del numero 14 (the number fourteen, man had 14 oxen, planted 14 measures of wheat, 14 bean plants, etc., is angered when pattern is disrupted); 3. La mosca (poor recording); 4. AneCDota (anecdote, an old man had a house with 100 windows, at each window was an old man, each man had 100 bags, in each bag was $100, speaker forgets the rest); 5. Adivinanza (riddle, something that is loud in field and silent in house, axe, la hacha); 6. Cacaseno (despicable man, poor man, tormented by bees, fever, and calillas).
Anonymous, male. (Poor recording). 1. El muchacho ignorante (donkey, coyote, crow, each one eats the previous); 2. Don Cacahuate (humor, story about him, Mexico); 3. Versos (rhyming verse about food, mole, sweet potatoes, the dog and the hare); 4. through 9. are Bertoldo stories (cuentos, humor, short stories about Bartoldo, king and queen); 10. El proyecto (chiste, joke about a old dumb man).
Anonymous, male. (Fair recording). 1. El trampe (man walks street asking for a ride, he takes advantage of family); 2. El Anglo que queria hablar espanol (story of an Anglo American man, had a Mexican friend, wanted to learn Spanish, Mexican started lessons with dichos, like better late than never and one bird in the hand is better than 4000 flying. But Anglo learns them incorrectly, its better to be on time with a bird in your hand, etc., language, humor); 3. AneCDota (humor, irony, a carpenter steals wood and goes to church to confess, priest gives him punishment of carving stations of cross, all he needs is wood); 4. El horno (people hide behind old outdoor ovens when they have appointments to speak with priest); 5. AneCDota (boy falls in love with a girl but is advised against marrying her); 6. Dichos (two phrases, refranes, Stable with small leak, is better than a sudden large one. Silent saints have greater shame); 7. Adivinanza (riddle, on what side of donkey does hair grow, on out side); 8. El flojo (cuento, story of a town that decides to bury lazy man alive, ugly woman wants to save, marry him, still he complains, prefers to die); 9. AneCDota (a man gets in a fight at a dance, judge opens his book of Montgomery? and whatever page it opens to, judge assign that punishment); 10. El alguacil (the constable, policeman, man that doesn't know how to read, yet recites a book from memory, illiteracy, knowledge, common law, law enforcement); 11. through 13. are Don Cacahuate stories (he steals a violin, tells Dona Cebolleta that he is going to jail, she come to him when he is cut, he has lost everything gambling); 14. La venta del caballo muerto (story of a man that owns prize race horse, Jewish man wishes to buy it, horse dies but is still sold for $900 to the Jewish man, trickery); 15. El lenero, lena (wood worker explains to another how to carry wood on donkey).
Anonymous, female. (Good recording). 1. El catolico y la vaca (a man works maintenance at Protestant Church in exchange for food for his cow. Minister sees him at the Catholic Church and man explains that he attends Catholic Church for salvation of his soul and Protestant Church for salvation of his cow); 2. Adivinanza (riddle, if ten ducks and five hunters, each kills his duck, how many ducks flew away?); 3. San Pedro (Saint Peter decides to leave heaven but gets locked out, many try to open gates and fail, an old woman is finally able to open gates with the crucifix of her rosary); 4. El rabbi (chiste, joke, a Jewish minister's son doesn't know what to do when he grows up, places glass of wine, Bible, and $ dollar bill on the table to find out if he will be a drunk, a minister or a businessman, he takes all three and says he will be a Catholic priest, religion, faith, church).
