Catherine Espinosa, b. 1910, Conejos, Colorado. (Good recording). 1. Rancho de Delgado (conversation in English, 15 miles south of Santa Fe, New Mexico, called Francisco Delgado Land Grant, Court of Private Land Claims case, Juana Lopez Grant, is above La Bajada and it runs into La Cienega Grant); 2. The Baca and Delgado families of Las Vegas (family history, Fabiola Cabeza de Baca Gilbert, Bacas date to seventeenth century; Delgados were originally from Santa Fe, 1776; Manuel Baca marries Maria Salazar, son Antonio Baca marries Monica de Chavez, son Juan Domingo Baca and Maria de la Luz Baca marries Manuel Delgado son of Captain Manuel Delgado, first Delgado in NM, how the two come together; genealogy of Bacas and Delgados; Ortiz and Bustamante families, trace back to Juan de Vaca).

Gilbert Espinosa, b. 1889, Albuquerque, NM. Talks about Antonio Delgado (genealogy continued, first known Delgado, did not come to NM; son was Manuel Delgado, b. 1758 in Pachuca, Mexico, criollo, founder of family, served in Spanish army, married Josefa Maria de Noriega in 1775 in El Paso del Norte, now Juarez, Mexico; 1776 retired to Santa Fe, New Mexico, with Antonio and Tomas brothers by previous marriage. Manuel II marries Maria de La Luz Baca, daughter of Juan Domingo Baca and Maria Getrudes de Ortiz; daughter Petra Baca marries Francisco Lopez, united the family lines; when Captain was in Santa Fe, was a member of the Cabildo, district council, litigation on record; official documents from 1830, 1836, 1837 with signature of Manuel Delgado II).

Gilbert Espinosa, b. 1889, Albuquerque, NM. Lopez family (history, genealogy, established in Agua Fria, Santa Fe, New Mexico, went to San Lorenzo, Francisco Lopez was born in Spanish times, lived in Mexican times, died in American times in Las Vegas, New Mexico; had a large ranch in San Lorenzo, near Conchas Lake, once was location of an American army post; women went to school with six soldiers for protection to convent, education, stayed for year; Epimenia and Modesta Lopez marry Felipe and Juan Delgado, have double marriage; each have about 13 children).

Gilbert Espinosa, b. 1889, Albuquerque, NM. 1. Jenizaros (genizaros, misunderstood term, in New Mexico has unique meaning for sons of fathers of different nations, Spanish place Native American Indians in settlements, in Abiquiu, Santa Fe, Valencia and Belen; Belen settlement, fortress, built 1767 by Jose Maria Baca); 2. Martinez family history (speaker's mother is Martinez and Valdez; genealogy, first Martinez is Jose Ignacio Martinez, marries Petrona Gonzales, daughter of Mayor of Albuquerque); 3. Espinosa family history (originated with Captain Marcelo de Espinosa, comes with Juan de Onate in 1598, son of Antonio Espinosa de los Monteros of Castilla la Vieja, Spain; Marcelo comes to New Mexico with Juan Antonio, has son Pedro Espinosa, first ancestor of knowledge, died 1735 in Mexico, his son Antonio settles in Santa Cruz de la Canada, New Mexico, ancestor of Captain Julian Espinosa, speaker's paternal grandfather, he marries Rufina Montoya; ancestor in 1766 is given the Piedra Lumbre Land Grant; speakers mother is Rafaela Martinez, descendent of Ortiz, connected with Lopez and Baca family); 4. A tradition of the Espinosas (speaker's grandfather, Julian Espinoza's uncle, Pedro Espinosa, taught catechism, considered a saint, school, education, church, religion; speaker helps to date a document, the El Rito census, north of Santa Fe 1833); 5. Padre Martinez (Father Antonio Jose Martinez, his parents are of noble Spanish descent, was given the parish at Abiquiu, New Mexico, transferred to Taos; educated in Durango, Mexico, when Benito Juarez was of influence and development of anti Catholic philosophy, influenced Martinez, objected to some church services, is excommunicated from the church in New Mexico, became a delegate in Washington); 6. Father Martinez and Kit Carson (Beabien and Miranda Land Grant given to Spaniard and French immigrant, Martinez objects to the grants for the Native American Indians, Carson takes part of the grants; results in conflict between Carson and Martinez, in the end Indians are given part of the grant? which is later sold to Maxwell, becomes Maxwell Land Grant).
