Scope and Contents
Lawrence Garcia, 1972: Lorenzo Garcia, Albuquerque, NM. Pedro de Urdemalas (Part II, Part I is on CD 133. Here Pedro is intelligent, outwits people, takes their livestock animals, mischief; one day he is put in sack and is to be thrown into the ocean, tricks man over a woman into trading places with him, escapes, other episodes).
Gary Garcia, 1971: Lazaro Frank Griego, b. 1888, Albuquerque, NM. 1. El hermano pobre y el rico (folk tale, poor one asked rich for help, refuses, an old man helps the poor one get a magic mill, molinito, molina, stories); 2. El hijo del hombre pobre cont. from CD 162 (folk tale, son of the poor man goes to sea, takes the mill with him, helps captain by getting food for men who are starving, in turn he is killed by some jealous men); 3. AneCDota y datos personales (anecdote, he calls it a chiste, joke, in reply to comment that a higher education if needed to answer the phone at a job site, man says he was educated on the fifth floor - hig up, employment, work, school; then personal information, talks about ancestor coming to America, family).
Banks, 1972: Pedro Herrera, b. 1935, La Madera, NM. 1. Los viejitos que querian rejuvenecerse (folk tale, they ask inventive young man to make them young again, he said would have to kill youngest one for blood for the older ones, they all say they are younger than they are); 2. Los tres consejos (folk tale, old man gives young man money and advice, with it he makes more money and saves his life and that of his son, related adventures); 3. La mentira mas grande en el mundo (anecdote, men telling tall tales, pumpkins so large not fit in large truck, iron pots so large takes hours to hear the sound of the iron clang, etc.); 4. Los amigos y el pastel (tall tale, men in woods cutting logs, wood, one asks wife to make a pie so they will know she is a good cook, cont. on CD 184, food, baking).
